Part 2. Our local community in Hackney Wick. The places we love.

Howling Hops Brewery

This brewery in Hackney Wick is a one of a kind stop for any beer connoisseur. Howling Hops was the first brewery to sell beers right out of their tanks on display right at the bar. There are 10 tanks with the taps pouring beer directly from them! If you’re hungry, check out the amazing Colombian food choices provided from Maize Blaze.

It sits in an industrial lot off a road covered in artsy graffiti. There’s a huge variety of beers to try like American inspired IPA’s and juicy choices, but there is also a twist of coffee stouts and hefeweizens.

Crate Brewery and Pizzeria

This converted warehouse into a brewery sits right on the canals of Hackney Wick. Enjoy some stunning outside seating views with boats passing by! Not to mention, you get a real snapshot of the colourful Hackney area just by hanging outside. Crate is great for a number of reasons. Maybe it’s the fact that it’s a dog friendly environment. Or the rotating weekday events such as live music. Crate has fresh beers of all kinds along with fantastic pizza for any carb lover.

Barge East

A Dutch barge that was built more than 100 years ago. The people of London go wild for this restaurant literally on water! Barge East is docked right in Hackney Wick’s River Lee Navigation Canal. If water isn’t really a thing, no worries. There is a huge outdoor area (on land of course) named Barge East Gardens great for comfort food and wine. But on the boat, you could eat below the deck or on the deck. Featuring fancy choices such as cuttlefish, pork’s neck, and pollock, this restaurant is a must-see.

Lord Napier

After decades of closure, Lord Napier is back and better than ever before. It’s a product of the huge volume of rebuilding happening in Hackney Wick today. Also known as the “graffiti building”, Lord Napier has 80 seats on the roof terrace with a sensational rotating tap inside. The first two dining rooms are available for booking private parties with bright blue and gold seating. Expect some Northern-Thai food for some unique spicy dishes. You can’t miss the colourful building on the street either. Lord Napier is quickly booking DJs, live events, and music supporting the local community as well.

Tuck Shop

This is your one stop shop for just about everything thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign. There aren’t many grocery stores in the Hackney Wick neighbourhood, but Tuck Shop offers even more. It’s a stop for general items, groceries along with fresh meat. Additionally, Tuck Shop has a refill station for grocery household items, a bar, and delicious tasting events if you want to sit down and chill for a bit. Not to mention, the meat and vegetables are consciously outsourced as they support the local area.
